Gentle Yoga provides a smooth transition into yoga and for many people, this is the place to start.  We meet once a week and focus primarily on preparing the body for deeper stretching and longer holding periods in postures.  There is plenty of time to ask questions and integrate the postures (rest).  Students with a stronger fitness background or prior yoga experience may wish to start directly in All Levels Yoga.

This is actually my favorite question! You don't need to be flexible before Yoga. Yoga improves performance in all areas of fitness and everyone benefits from this practice. For many people, yoga is a deeply personal or spiritual practice--a time to slow down and listen inward, connect to source, et al.

Yoga increases strength, flexibility, balance, and agility. Yoga massages and purifies the organ systems (e.g. respiratory, digestive, circulatory, lymphatic, reproductive, glandular, autonomic & nervous, et al.), and has been used for years to promote balance and well being physically, mentally, and spiritually. Many see Yoga as antidote for the stresses of modern life. Yoga produces deep states of awareness and allows room for simplicity, peace, and grace.

In a Hatha Yoga class, students work in and out of one asana (yoga posture) at a time. Vinyasa means Flow and students move or flow through postures much like a dance. The combination of Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga classes taught at Point Yoga are complementary.

What defines Kripalu Yoga is its emphasis: following the flow of prana (life-force energy), practicing compassionate self-acceptance, developing witness consciousness (observing the activity of the mind without judgment), and taking what is learned “off the mat” into daily life.

Currently, we do not require pre-registration for classes.  Pre-registration, however, is greatly appreciated!

Yes. Up to two make-ups can be done during the (usually 8 week) session in which the absence occurs. Please view our policies for more information.

Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes before the start time of your class or workshop, especially if it's your first time at Point Yoga. Instructors do their best to open the studio at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class.

The beauty of Point Yoga is the built-in community support. Start by coming as often as you can. Lot's of people come once a week and lots of people come to multiple classes per week. It depends on your schedule and what you expect out of yourself and your practice.

Wear comfortable, modest clothing that allows for stretching. Avoid wearing loose clothing that may interfere with your practice (especially during inversions). No footwear is required since yoga is practiced barefoot.  If shoes are required for medical reasons, they may be worn. Feel free to bring your own yoga mat and towel (if you sweat). If you do not have a mat, we have house mats available.

Try not to eat anything heavy several hours before class. A full stomach may cause discomfort and distract you from your practice.

Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe healing modality that addresses both chronic and acute conditions. Reiki gently and powerfully promotes healing among all of the body and organ systems. It works in conjunction with other medical and therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and speed up recovery. Reiki promotes deep relaxation.
